Five hundred children reunited in US detention

World June 24, 2018 05:57

washington - The US government reunited more than 500 children with their parents who illegally entered the US and were separated under the harsh migration policy. That has been announced by the US Department of Homeland Security.

In the meantime, 522 children have been reunited with their parents. In the next 24 hours, sixteen children will be able to see their parents again. The government does expect that a small number of children will remain separated, partly because the family relationship can not be established with certainty.

US President Donald Trump earlier this week put an end to the controversial policy of separating children from illegals from their parents after arrival in the US and detaining them separately. A great deal of controversy had arisen about this policy both within and outside the US.
