First Turkish president in Athens since 1952

athens - Turkish President Erdogan arrived on Thursday for an official visit to Athens. It is the first visit of a Turkish head of state to Greece since that of Celal Bayer in 1952. Erdogan was received by his Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

Pavlopoulos said, according to Greek media, that his country is willing to be the gateway to the European Union for Turkey. Erdogan visits the neighboring country with which Turkey has a difficult relationship for two days. On Friday he visits the northeastern Komotini, where Greek Muslims live.
