washington - The American astronaut who was the first person to float loose in space in 1984 died. It's about astronaut Bruce McCandless II who gave his last breath on Thursday at the age of eighty, as space agency NASA announced on Friday.

McCandless was one of the members of the Space Shuttle mission where the special Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) was tested. That is kind of 'flying chair' with which space can be flown.

The test provided spectacular images of an astronaut who, by sight, floated all by himself.
