moscow - The most important Russian human rights organization Memorial is afraid of the future of their activist Ojoeb Titijev. This was recently arrested in Chechnya. He is formally in pre-trial detention for possession of drugs.

The activist hangs a cell punishment above the head. Memorial says that it is a method to extract the troublesome Titijev from society in Chechnya. The 60-year-old activist is the leader of the human rights office in the autonomous Russian republic.

Memorial claims that the marijuana found in Titijev's car was deposited there by the police. In its protests against the arrest the organization received support from, among others, Human Rights Watch, the German government, the Council of Europe and the US Department of Foreign Affairs.

Titijev's predecessor in Chechnya, the activist Natalia Estemirova, was kidnapped and murdered.
