bangkok - A Zimbabwean family has been camping for months at a Bangkok airport. The travelers refuse to return to their homeland, but also do not enter Europe. The Thai immigration service informed the BBC that airport staff has taken care of the family.

The fate of the Zimbabweans came to light through a photo on Facebook. An employee from the airport shared an image on which he gave a Christmas present to a little girl. He wrote that her family had spent almost three months at the airport because of the troubled situation in Zimbabwe.

The family with four young children arrived, according to the authorities, on a tourist visa in Bangkok. They wanted to fly to Barcelona via Kiev, but did not have the right travel documents. Also an attempt to reach a third country via Dubai did not work out.

In the meantime, the UNHCR would also interfere with the issue. The UN refugee organization said that a solution was sought, but did not go into detail. A spokesman for the immigration service said that the family does not want to be transferred to a shelter. 'They are happy to stay here. '
