Facebook opens VR lab in Pittsburgh

- Facebook will soon open a new research center in the US city of Pittsburgh. The lab is technically a subsidiary of Oculus and will focus on improving the virtual reality experience and finding new uses for the technology.

The social network took in 2014 Oculus, the company behind one of the first VR glasses for consumers over. Especially founder Mark Zuckerberg has spoken out about the possibilities offered by virtual reality, even outside of gaming, where Oculus currently mainly focusing on.

The reason the lab is located in Pittsburgh, is because the Carnegie Mellon University is there. This is known for its high-quality technical training. Oculus has also vacancies for the lab to include 'computer vision' specialists and post-docorale researchers.

The Oculus Rift is the end of March for consumers. The device costs € 699 and that's without counting the cost to a powerful PC, which is necessary to play with VR games.
