Facebook may not use WhatsApp data

hamburg - Facebook may not use data from German Whatsapp users. The judge in Hamburg decided on Tuesday. However, Facebook does not have to discard the data because it is not yet clear whether German law is also applicable to an Irish company. Formally Facebook is located in that country. Probably another trial will follow to make it clear.

Earlier, the German privacy guard dog Facebook was also prohibited from using 35 million WhatsAppers data because the social network had failed users to request permission for this use.

Facebook took WhatsApp in February 2014 for $ 16 billion. Until this summer, the company kept its customer service information strictly separate from that of its own social network. Since then, the phone number is passed to Facebook.
