EU wants to release Russian protesters

brussels - The European Union has with the Russian authorities demanded the immediate release of the demonstrators on Sunday were arrested during peaceful demonstrations. The police deployment violates the Russian Constitution also guaranteed freedom of expression, association and assembly, showed EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini know Monday.

Mogherini called on Russia to guarantee the fundamental rights and fully comply with its international obligations.

In mass protests in the country against corruption took hundreds of people the police. One of those arrested was opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was taken by the police in the center of Moscow.

The demonstrations on Sunday were the biggest in Russia for years. The United States has condemned the actions of the Russian authorities.
