EU wants to investigate attack on journalist

belgrade - The European Union has called on Montenegro to thoroughly investigate the attack on a journalist. Reporter Olivera Lakic was injured when she was attacked on Tuesday outside an apartment complex in Podgorica. The 49-year-old journalist writes for a daily newspaper about organized crime.

The shooting led to a lot of outrage. Commissioner Johannes Hahn (Enlargement Negotiations) warned that such incidents affect the reputation of the Balkan country, which wants to become a member of the EU. 'This is on our radar and we expect a decent investigation,' Hahn said after a meeting with the journalist.

The journalist had previously been the target of an attack. Lakic was beaten up in 2012 at her home. The police are still looking for three suspects of Tuesday's shooting.
