EU provides 3 million emergency aid for Gaza

brussels - For extra emergency aid to Gaza residents, the European Commission is donating 3 million euros. The money is distributed through international aid organizations and is intended for water, medicine and sanitation.

The situation in the Gaza Strip escalated this week. In Palestinian protests along the border with Israel, sixty people were shot and counted numerous wounded. It is essential that relief supplies are quickly admitted into the Gaza Strip, says EU Commissioner Christos Stylianides in a statement.

Europe is an important donor of the Palestinians. The EU released 13.5 million euros in humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip last year, out of a total of 20 million. Since 2000 it is more than 700 million.
