madrid - Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has to make it clear on Thursday morning whether he or she has declared independence now or not. Puigdemont has been confused about securing Catalonia since last week, and Spain has plenty of it.
Madrid is now requesting clarity on Thursday. If it is not at 10.00, the central government is threatening to take over the administration of Catalonia.
Puigdemont called unexpectedly for independence last week in a speech to the Barcelona parliament, but asked for a mandate to do so. He said that there should be a time for negotiations with Madrid.
The Catalan leader later caused more ambiguity by signing a document in which Catalonia declared itself independent. Spanish media stated that the statement 'had a symbolic rather than a legal character'.
Madrid demanded clarity for last Monday, but ultimately gave Puigdemont the time for a si or no, by the end of Thursday morning.
