Erdogan meets Merkel at the end of September

berlin - Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel during his state visit to Germany. All current issues can be discussed, including the subjects on which there is disagreement, says a German government spokesperson.

Erdogan is in Germany on 28 and 29 September. It will be his first official visit to Germany since 2014, and his first since he took over the Turkish presidency. The state visit includes a reception by the German president with military honor and a formal state banquet.

Relations between the two countries fell to a low point after a series of disputes about Turkey's crackdown after a failed coup in 2016. One topic that is likely to be discussed is the capture of German citizens and journalists in Turkey.
