England wants to ban dog food

World August 8, 2018 12:18

amsterdam - The British government is considering banning the eating of dog meat after reports that this practice also occurs there.

Eating dog meat is not prohibited in England, trade in it or its import is. Downing Street is now looking at the possibility of introducing a total ban on dog meat- food, import and trade- on the example of the United States.

Animal activists believe that such a total ban is an important signal to countries where dog meat is still eaten. Kike Yuen, spokesperson for the WDA- World Dog Alliance- states that it is mainly immigrants from East Asia who eat dog meat in the US and that such a situation can also occur in England with more than three million immigrants from Southeast Asia within the borders.

According to the WDA, many countries in Asia refuse to do something about the habit of eating dog meat, arguing that there are no laws in the West that prohibit the consumption of dog.
