miami - An engineer who was involved in overseeing the construction of the pedestrian bridge that collapsed in Miami in Florida on Thursday, said he had warned for cracks in the construction two days before the incident. The collapse of the bridge under construction caused six people to die and ten injured.

The engineer Denney Pate reported the cracks he detected in a voicemail to the State Department of Transportation of the state of Florida. The official to whom the message was addressed, however, was not present at the office. He only listened to the message one day after the accident. The engineer said in his message that according to his estimation the cracks were not an acute safety hazard, but that they had to be repaired.

The investigation into the cause of the incident is still in full swing. The bridge collapsed five days after it was put in place. The authorities fear that there are still bodies under the rubble.
