Emergency state in New Delhi to air pollution

World November 7, 2017 10:21

new delhi - In the Indian capital, New Delhi, the state of emergency was declared Tuesday because there is a stingy layer of smog about the city. According to The Times of India, more than twice the amount of particulate matter in the air is already labeled as dangerous. The schools therefore close for a few days.

The World Health Organization (WHO) named New Delhi in 2014 the most polluted capital in the world, worse than the Beijing as well-known. Since then, the authorities have temporarily closed coal-fired power plants, and sometimes some of the car traffic is falling asleep.

The air pollution is often worse at the beginning of winter, because the particulate matter can not spread into the atmosphere through the colder air. The air is heavily affected by the exhaust gases of diesel engines, coal plants, industrial emissions and the fireworks set for Diwali religious festival. In addition, many farmers in the north of the country burn the stubble on the fields, although formally prohibited.
