All new cars in Europe must be equipped with an emergency call system as of 31 March that will automatically warn emergency services in the event of a serious accident.

The so-called eCall alerts the European emergency number 112 via the European satellite navigation system Galileo.

Ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles can thus quickly reach the scene of the accident. According to estimates, the reaction time in rural areas can be halved.

Significant time savings are also made in built-up areas.
