- South Carolina are Saturday open polling for the Republican primary in the race for the US presidency. In the state on the southeast coast is Donald Trump towering favorite. A second consecutive victory would give the controversial billionaire tailwind to the nomination.

South Carolina is about fifty delegates. For the final victory, the candidate needs 1237 delegates to the Republicans. Behind Trump fight Senators from Texas and Florida, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, for second place. Several polls give Cruz a slight lead or show both candidates equally go on. Rubio is assured of key supporters in the party.

The election in South Carolina is the first with a high percentage of Latin and African-American voters. They are an important group at the Democratic voters, who next week will in the state to the polls. South Carolina chooses a so-called 'primary', where all registered voters can vote.

Democrats hold on Saturday a 'caucus' in Nevada, a kind of discussion evening followed by a vote. For the Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is an opportunity to test his popularity with voters from minority groups. He will thereby to pierce the argument rival Hillary Clinton that he is a candidate who can only count on support from voters 'white' states.
