washington - A senior member of the American House of Representatives resigned on Tuesday after being accused by several former female staff members of sexual harassment. It is the 88-year-old John Conyers, the longest-serving Congressman in Washington.
The ethics committee of the House of Representatives started a study last week on Conyers, who has been a member of the Congress since 1964. Conyers ended up with stress complaints in the hospital last week. This happened shortly after one of the women in a program on national television had told about the 'years of sexual harassment' under Conyers.
The leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi had called on her party member to resign. Conyers denies all accusations.
