The fifteen year old hippopotamus Gusta Vito died Sunday from his injuries after programs had been broken at night in his residence in the national zoo. It seems, according to the BBC that the unknown attackers assaulted the animal with striking and stabbing weapons.

Employees of the zoo discovered the next morning that Gusta Vito behaved strangely. The animal refused to eat and would not come out of the water. Then it turned out that the neck and hippopotamus head were covered with injuries.

Although violence is the order of the day in El Salvador, the death of the animal results according to the British Broadcasting to much fanfare. Many people share their grief and disgust on social media. The perpetrators are now still missing.
