valetta - The Malta police arrested eight people in connection with the murder of blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia. The critical investigative journalist was killed on 16 October when a bomb destroyed her car while she was driving.

The arrests were announced Monday by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who himself was the subject of Galizia's critical documents. All arrested persons are from Malta. Most have a criminal past, according to Muscat. He did not provide any details about the people involved.

The murder of 53-year-old Galizia caused a lot of controversy in Malta. Her revealing documents about corruption among Maltese politicians and their links with the local mafia were very popular among the population, but also gave her many enemies.
