- Dutch are getting older. But in other European countries, life expectancy is rising even faster. The prospects of Dutch girls are therefore sunk from the top to the middle. Boys have climbed to the second tier. This was reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics Saturday.

A Dutch girl who was born last year, has a life expectancy of 83.3 years. The Netherlands is thus on the fifteenth of the 28 countries in the European Union. In 2003, a newborn girl 80.9 years for themselves.
The life expectancy of Dutch boys has increased in the same period from 76.3 to 79.9 years. The difference between boys and girls is narrowing.
That life expectancy is increasing in the Netherlands, is because health care is better. Illnesses are always to better detect and treat. Moreover, fewer and fewer people smoking. But people in other countries eat healthier than we are. Thus, the life expectancy is rising faster there. In the European summit are almost exclusively the countries around the Mediterranean, where people eat a lot of fish and olive oil.
