Dutch 'eyes' for NASA mission

utrecht - Dutch scientists are developing the technology for a NASA mission in 2021. The Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) and TU Delft will get started with the detector technology for the balloon telescope GUSTO which will bring the entire life cycle of stars in the picture.

So does the telescope to fly to the edge of space. That's why measurements can then be done with far-infrared cameras. Also, emissions of carbon, oxygen and nitrogen were measured. Together, these measurements should provide more insight into the birth and death of stars, but also should be as large parts of the Milky Way are mapped.

Several American universities take care of the rest of the technology and the nacelle where all the instruments are mounted. The launch should take place from McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
