Drought: Thai monkeys get water by boat

bangkok - Twice a week a boat brings drinking water to monkeys on the Thai island of Rum. Throughout Thailand by the weather phenomenon El Niño in the rainy season from November to January to little rain on the island in the Gulf of Thailand not even a drop, says the director of the Khao Sam Roy Yot National Park.

On the uninhabited island remains a colony of about fifty long-tailed macaques. There is no groundwater. Park staff now come twice a week with water bottles, which are emptied into a source.

Koh Rum is one kilometer off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, 300 kilometers south of Bangkok.
