Dozens of assaults during New Year's Eve in Cologne

cologne - Dozens of women are assaulted during New Year's Eve in Cologne and robbed by a group of men. According to police, one of the victims were raped.

According to the German newspaper Spiegel, there are 60 reports of sexual offenses and robbery done. Police reports that it involves men with an 'Arab and North African appearance' who were in a drunken state. Five persons were arrested.

During the turn of the year were at least a thousand people around the Cologne Central Station. Small groups encircled groups of women to grope them then. Often these assaults were also intended to rob the women afterwards.

Police are trying to figure out based on camera images what exactly happened. The mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker has convened representatives from the police for a crisis meeting tomorrow.
