Doctor thought that Skripals would not survive

london - The British doctor who treated the Russian ex-double spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia did not expect them to survive. The doctors and nurses who supplied the nerve gas poisoned Skripals told the BBC how they dealt with the special situation.

When father and daughter were brought into the hospital, an overdose of drugs was initially thought. Only when an agent with the same symptoms was recorded, it became clear that more was going on. A sister-in-law states that the staff then began to fear that they themselves could also become infected.

After the police had discovered Sergej Skripal's identity, officers entered the hospital to protect him. When it became clear what the doctors had to deal with, there was little hope. 'We would try all our therapies, we would provide the best clinical care, but all the evidence was that they would not survive,' says Dr. Stephen Jukes.

After weeks of treatment and with the help of experts from a nearby research center, the Skripals were recently discharged from the hospital. They are working on their recovery at a secret address.
