athens - Due to heavy rainstorms, at least ten people died in the neighborhood of Athens. In the villages of Mandra, Nea Peramos and Megara, devastating mudslides caused enormous havoc.

The mud flows sometimes reached more than two meters. Cars were dragged everywhere, the inhabitants had to flee their balconies or even the roofs. Hundreds of people were stuck in their homes that way yesterday.

The authorities have declared a state of emergency and the fire brigade has been pulled out to help the residents. For some residents, however, no rescue was possible. The fire department found three men and two women in Mandra who had not survived the mudflow. Dead people were also found at the sea.
