Demonstrators US withdraw controversial monument
durham - Demonstrators pulled a monument to a soldier from the American Civil War from his shelf on a Monday evening in Durham, North Carolina. The activists pulled the statue with a rope and kicked it.
According to the activists, the image is a racist symbol and glorifies the Confederation Monuments, a covenant of southern states in civil war, slavery past.
The monument has been on the verge of the courthouse in Durham since 1924.
The demonstration in Durham was organized following the events of last weekend in Charlottesville. A protest march was organized against the removal of a statue of a General of the Southern States, Robert E. Lee.

Protestors in #Durham destroying a statue. Why is there zero consequences for this type of behavior? This is NOT acceptable. pic.twitter.com/l48O0Hvv9E
