'Demolish new airport Berlin and build again'

berlin - The new airport in Berlin, which should have been completed seven years ago, can be better demolished and rebuilt. This is what Lufthansa driver Thorsten Dirks said according to the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine.

The airport has to open its doors in 2011, but thousands of defects have been detected during inspections in recent years. According to Dirks many technical installations are already outdated and a large part of the furniture can also be unused.

'I expect the airport to be demolished and rebuilt,' Dirks said, a Lufthansa spokesman later denied that this is the position of the big German airline.

The costs of the airport have now increased from 2 billion euros to 7 billion euros.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport should have replaced the smaller airports Tegel and Schönefeld seven years ago.
