Defeat May over Brexit

Defeat May over Brexit

World April 18, 2018 18:21

london - British Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered a sensitive defeat in the Upper House. A majority voted for an amendment to the law on departure from the EU. As a result, Great Britain can still remain a member of the Customs Union, while May wants to get out of it.

The opposition's proposal to adjust the 'departure law' was supported by a few conservatives. The last word has not yet been said. The House of Commons may reverse the adjustment at a later stage.

The Customs Union ensures that there are no physical boundaries between the EU countries. Being part of that union is important for, among other things, trade and the free movement of people.
