'Death penalty for grim sleeper '

- A jury in Los Angeles on Monday recommended the death sentence imposed on a 63-year-old American who last month found guilty of the murder of nine women and a girl in a period of over twenty years.

The jury had to get bent over whether Lonnie David Franklin for life or capital punishment and called after eight hours of deliberation the latter. The judge will formally an August 10 statement.

Franklin came in 2010 as the top suspect in a series of murders in the seventies and eighties through new DNA techniques. Because so much time between the murders, he has been nicknamed the,, grim sleeper '. His victims were mostly young black women in downtown Los Angeles.
