la paz - At least six detainees were killed in Bolivia during a confrontation with the police. Twenty others were injured. According to the authorities, the prisoners revolted when officers searched the prison in Santa Cruz. A senior police official said that six police officers were shot.
The situation escalated on Wednesday when some two thousand police officers entered the Palmasola prison. They found firearms there, an alcohol distillery and drugs. It is not the first time that deadly riots occur in prison. By fighting between detainees, dozens of people died in 2013.
The government had recently ordered that dozens of children be removed from prison. They lived there with their parents. There would have been child prostitution.
