- Customers who now lie under the rubble of all had already settled the collapsed hotel Rigopiano in the Italian city Farindola and packed their bags to leave. They did Wednesday at only waiting for the snow for three hours that would pave the way. But that never came. First the snow would come back at five. But when that did not come. Later, at ten o'clock in the evening the devastating avalanche came.

Giampiero Parete, cook by profession who, with his wife and children at the hotel was on vacation, then took just stuff out of his car. He saw the avalanche hotel, where his wife and children were still stunned. Through a message on WhatsApp he contacted his colleague, restaurateur Quintino Marcella, and called for help.
