It will be the first time that the country is no longer ruled by the Castro family since the beginning of the sixties.

Raúl Castro would almost certainly be replaced by the current first vice president Miguel Diaz-Canel (57). Castro will remain the head of the Communist Party, the only political party of Cuba.

Raúl Castro succeeded his brother Fidel in 2008, who was stunned with his health. Fidel Castro died in November 2016 at the age of 90.
