london - Two prominent Kremlin critics have joined forces to prevent a Russian becoming the new head of Interpol. Former oil tale Mikhail Khodorkovsky and the American businessman Bill Browder fear that the Kremlin would use the appointment to influence the police service.
Representatives of Interpol member countries choose the successor to the Chinese Meng Hongwei this week. It disappeared without a trace in September and was later arrested in its own country on suspicion of corruption. The Russian Prokopchuk counts as one of the favorites to take over the function.
