According to the newspaper, the FAA has hardly tested the system. Because the engines of the 737 Max are larger and in a different location than older versions of the device, the aerodynamics have changed considerably. MCAS must limit the influence of those adjustments and is therefore a crucial part of the device, but the FAA relied too much on Boeing when approving the 737 Max, the newspaper writes.
