Court: poker is a game of chance

amsterdam - Poker is a game of chance, not skill game. Therefore we need a permit to organize a poker tournament. The Amsterdam Court ruled that Friday. The court found earlier that poker it is about skill and that there is therefore no need for authorization.

The case revolved around three men who were indicted for poker tournaments at a cafe in Bussum. They had no authorization for that. According to the court plays a coincidence, namely the distribution of the cards, a role in profit or loss. How deftly the poker players are, they do not affect the chance. This makes poker a game of chance.

The organizers of the tournaments were given a suspended fine of 1,250 euros each. The third man, the owner of the cafe where the tournament was held, is complicit and should therefore pay conditional 500. It takes into account the long term, the case is almost ten years old.
