Corbyn wants customs union with European Union

World February 26, 2018 11:42

coventry - The British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn wants Britain to form a customs union with the European Union after Brexit. The union should avoid levies on trade with Europe and ensure that no physical border is needed between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Prime Minister Theresa May is trying to reach an agreement with the EU on the Brexit, but a small part of her constituency prefers to remain in the union. Labor leader Corbyn hopes to use the unrest within the conservative party to weaken May's position.

May does not want to form a customs union with the EU, because it would prevent Britain from entering into new trade agreements with fast-growing economies such as China and India.
