washington - A US senator resigned on Thursday after being accused by eight women of sexual harassment. It is the Democrat Al Franken who sat in the Senate for the state of Minnesota.

Franks is the second American politician within a week that resigns after allegations of sexual intimidation. On Tuesday, 88-year-old Democrat John Conyers stepped down as a member of the House of Representatives. He was the longest-serving Congressman in Washington and was accused by former staff members.

Franks stepped up after several dozens of fellow senators and the leaders of the Democrats and Republicans in the Senate had called for his resignation.
