alkmaar - Buy online cheese and still live from the cheese farmer, get personal explanation of the cheese. Kaan's Cheese Shop from Alkmaar has said this week- the world's first 'stream store', a mix between a web shop and a physical store.

With a webcam you can see what happens in the shop in the Alkmaarse Koorstraat. Asked questions are answered by the staff on camera and the customers in the store are just in the picture. An important difference with an ordinary web store: if a customer enters Alkmaar, the online customer must wait.

Other differences are also there. Online there are only eight cheeses to order, while the store offers much more choice. For customers from the rest of the world, it's also bad luck. The streaming store is only open if the regular store is also.

The online store is a collaboration with ABN AMRO. The bank calls it an 'experiment with a wink', intended to draw attention to having an online presence for small retailers. With the streaming store, ABN wants to show you how online customers can interact with each other and really engage with your store.
