'CDU and SPD release climate target for 2020'

World January 8, 2018 20:51

berlin - The Christian Democratic CDU / CSU and the Social Democratic SPD want to abandon a climate goal set for 2020 when it comes to the formation of a government coalition. Sources within the negotiating parties announced on Monday that CDU / CSU and SPD think it is not feasible to reduce CO 2 emissions by 40% in 2020 compared to 1990.

In the run-up to parliamentary elections last year, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) had said that it was possible to reduce C02 emissions by 40 percent. Now the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats would have come to the conclusion that this goal is not feasible, partly because the economy is growing faster than previously anticipated.

The Greens and Die Linke reacted critically to the message that CDU / CSU and SPD are making a stand in the fight against climate change. The liberal FDP is just positive.
