paris - The Venezuelan guerrilla fighter Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, better known as Carlos the Jackal, has been sentenced to life again. The judge in Paris, according to the French media, saw no reason to adjust the sentence on appeal. That statement came after barely two hours of consideration.

The leftist terrorist, who was responsible for, among other things, the hostage taking at the OPEC headquarters in 1975 and numerous attacks, was for years one of the most wanted persons. He was extradited to France in 1994 and was given life imprisonment for multiple murders in three different cases.

Carlos threw in a grenade in 1974 in a drugstore in a shopping center on the Champs Elysées. Two people were killed, 34 were injured. Before that, he was given a life sentence for the third time in March last year. That has now been confirmed in appeal. The now 68-year-old offender was missing on Thursday in the courthouse.
