lamargelle - Approximately 30 churchgoers have contracted carbon monoxide poisoning at a Easter vigil in the French village of Lamargelle.

In the church of the town north of Dijon, 150 people were gathered for the service in the night from Saturday to Sunday. At some point, some visitors started to experience breathing. A team of police experts measured the air for toxic gases and observed carbon monoxide.

More than sixty firefighters and five doctors treated the victims. After a first inspection, a heating defect was identified as the cause of the carbon monoxide poisoning, according to a written statement from the local authorities.
