Candidate Prime Minister Italy gives back assignment

World May 27, 2018 19:57

rome - Italian candidate Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has returned his assignment to form a government. That's what the presidential palace said on Sunday.

According to sources surrounding the coalition, President Sergio Mattarella does not agree with the candidacy of Eurosceptic Paolo Savona for the position of Minister of Economy. M5S (Five Star Movement) and the Lega, the parties that want to form a coalition together, had put Savona forward.

Conte returned from his assignment after consulting with Mattarella about the list of candidate ministers. M5S leader Luigi Di Maio called it 'unacceptable' that the president dismissed Savona as candidate minister. Leader Matteo Salvini of the Lega said that the intended coalition partners should have the opportunity themselves to appoint the candidate ministers for a new government.
