brussels - The EU is giving financial support to the victims of the heavy earthquake on Lombok. The European Commission is donating 500,000 euros extra for emergency humanitarian aid, according to a spokesman. Last week, Brussels sent 150,000 euros to the Indonesian Red Cross for emergency supplies in the east and north of the island.

The half million is meant for the 'most vulnerable' survivors of the quake with a force of 6. 9 last week Sunday, which killed at least 436 people. 'We support the victims. This money should ensure that affected citizens have sufficient resources to get through this difficult time, 'said EU Commissioner Christos Stylianides (humanitarian aid).

Since the quake, there have been numerous aftershocks that have made the rescue and salvage operations more difficult. The EU money is earmarked for some 80,000 people in the most difficult areas.
