Brussels expects that import duty will come with steel

- European Commissioner Malmström (Trade) expects the European Union for exports of steel and aluminum to the US does not come under import duties.

She gave that estimate Wednesday, a few days before the current US measure expires, which did not yet imply an import duty on European steel and alumnium.

She says it is likely that by 1 June all exports to the US will be made more expensive. The Trump government is thus protecting its own industry against companies that operate below cost. According to Tata Steel, this complaint is unjustified and no steel is dumped at a discount.

In recent months, feverish consultations followed to get the levy off the table. Malström: 'Even if the US abandons import duties, I expect the US to want to raise EU exports in some form. '
