ottawa - A British woman and her Canadian husband, who celebrated their 75th anniversary celebration last month, died only five hours apart last Friday.

Jean Spear (94), who was appointed as a member of the Order of the British Empire in 2006, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. One day later, her husband George (97) followed, before both Friday fell into a deep sleep, from which she would never wake up again- Jean at 4.30 am, George around 9.45. The two children of the couple are unrestricted. 'We are overwhelmed by their sudden death,' said daughter Heather.

The couple learned each other in 1941 in a dance hall near London, while George was stationed in Britain as a sergeant of the Royal Canadian Engineers. Their encounter is still clear to Jean, so he told the BBC during their 72-year anniversary. 'She looked at my army shoes and said,' I do not know if we can dance with those clumsy coffins you wear, 'said George. 'I said,' Let's try. 'We did that. And so it happened. 'Jean said his rhythm was perfect. 'So we danced all night with no one else. '

A year later they married the wedding boat. It led to a special marriage that would last for 75 years.
