brasilia - The highest Venezuelan diplomat in Brazil is no longer welcome. According to the BBC, the authorities declared Gerardo Delgado a persona non grata.

Venezuela is embroiled in a diplomatic dispute with several American countries. Caracas recently decided that both the Canadian agent and the Brazilian ambassador should leave the country.

The relationship between Venezuela and Brazil deteriorated after the leftist Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff was deposed. Her Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro called that 'a right-wing coup'.

Canada and Brazil have repeatedly criticized the Maduro regime, partly because of the human rights situation in the country. The Canadian government imposed sanctions against Venezuelan senior officials a few months ago.
