Bomb explosion on Mexican ferry no terrorist act

mexico city - The explosion that injured several dozen people on a Mexican ferry last month was not a terrorist act. Organized crime was not behind it either. The Ministry of Justice has announced this on Sunday. It did not matter about possible suspects.

The blast on the ferry that was moored in the harbor of Playa del Carmen was caused by a bomb that had been assembled at home. That a crime or terrorist organization is responsible for the attack is excluded. At least 25 people, including Americans, sustained injuries. The tourist industry, which is very important in the area with places like Playa del Carmen, the island of Cozumel and Cancún, was also hit hard.

The boat was operated by a shipping company which, according to the local media, is owned by the Roberto Borge family, the former governor of the state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatán peninsula. He is suspected of corruption and has been detained in Panama since his extradition.
