maiduguri - The Islamic terror organization Boko Haram has released thirteen people in northeastern Nigeria. A spokesman for the Nigerian government made that known. With the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the government had negotiated the release.

Among the released hostages are ten women and three employees of the university in Maiduguri. They had been kidnapped by the terrorists in recent years. Whether ransom is paid for their freedom, the spokesman did not want to say.

Government troops in the northeast of Nigeria have been fighting fiercely with the jihadists of Boko Haram for some time, notorious for, among other things, hostage and suicide actions. They have already made at least 20,000 victims.

In 2014 almost three hundred girls were kidnapped from Chibok at one stroke. That action led to great anger worldwide. Dozens of girls are still estimated to be stuck.
