Bloodbath after arguing migrants and smugglers
- A quarrel between Egyptian and Libyan migrant smugglers Wednesday ended in a bloodbath. At least nine Egyptians and three Libyan smugglers were killed by the violence in the Libyan city Bani Walid.
According to one officer were migrants and smugglers collided with each other about money. A group of Egyptians killed three of the smugglers and ran. Later they were stopped at a checkpoint, where police had noticed that there was blood on their car.
A fourth smuggler who was still alive, came to the police station where the Egyptians were detained and opened fire on them. What happened to him is not clear. According to the UN mission in the North African country is the possible death toll even higher: Thirteen Egyptians have died.
Libya after the deposition and murder of dictator Muammar Kaddhafi increasingly fallen into chaos. The country is home to numerous armed groups, including militias who have sworn allegiance to IS. For hundreds of thousands Libya is primarily a springboard to Europe.
